HHI-EMD tested the Hydrogen blended fuel on HiMSEN engine.
Hyundai Heavy Industries-Engine & Machinery Division have tested the LNG - Hydrogen mixed fuel operation in HiMSEN engine as the first time in domestic shipbuilding industry.
This tested engine is ‘1.5MW LNG - Hydrogen HiMSEN engine’ that was developed with own technology, and was confirmed its excellent performance and stability at the HHI-EMD’s R&D center. In particular, the mixing ratio of hydrogen has risen to 25 vol.% as the world highest level, the carbon dioxide emissions could be reduced by 30% compared to diesel engine.
This LNG - Hydrogen HiMSEN engine can be used for the stationary engine of power plant, gen-set engine of vessels and the propulsion engine. And the hydrogen evaporation gas(BOG) can be also reused for this engine as its fuel. HHI-EMD has been developing the eco-friendly engine as LNG, Methanol and Ammonia, additionally has a plan to develop the pure Hydrogen combustion engine by 2025.
